INTRODUCTION
A lot of people living in the state of Maine don’t even realize it, but a number of Maine residents qualify for a free lifetime fishing license. Maine residents with certain disabilites, such as mental illness, or those who are handicapped, or blind (this includes being legally blind as well,) all qualify for a free fishing license.Obtaining one doesn’t cost you a cent and it only takes a few minutes to fill out the paper work.
THINGS YOU WILL NEED
Something that shows why you qualify, such as paper work from a doctor or the state or federal government.
Access to a local town office or city hall.
STEP 1
If you are a resident of Maine and blind, or legally blind, go to your local town office or city hall anjd tell them you want to apply for a free fishing license for someone who is blind (or legally blind).
STEP 2
Be prepared to show proof that you are in fact a Maine resident. This may include showing your a rtegistered voter, that you hold a Maine Drivers license, or have paid taxes, there are other proof of resident they accept as well.
STEP 3
Be prepared to show you are blind, or legally blind. This can be done through a doctors note or through paper work through the state of Maine.
STEP 4
Fill out the short form. It only takes a few minutes. My brother got his issued to him right than and there, but a friend had his come through the mail days later.
STEP 5
If you are a Native American who is a resident of Maine, or is a war Veteran who is disabled, or if you are suffering from the loss of both lower extremities, or have a head injury or suffer from mental illness, go to your local town office or city hall and ask for a form to obtain a free fishing license based on one or more of those conditions.
STEP 6
Be prepared to show proof of your disability or condition, as well as proof that you are a resident of the state of Maine.

HELPFUL TIPS
It always helps to go prepared. My brother only needed one piece of paperwork showing he was blind and another showing he was a resident of Maine, but brought along extra paper work just in case.
WARNINGS
Never attempt to fish without a fishing license, it is illegal and can result in heavy fines and other actions being taken against you.
