If you type in an alias, then that will be displayed instead of your real name. For example, if your screen name is John123 and your real name is John Smith, you can enter John123 as your alias to keep your real name private.

A: To make friends, you will have to visit another person's profile and scroll over "Connections" at the top of their profile page. After you scroll over "Connections" you'll see the option to "request a connection." If you select "request a connection," that member will be notified, by email, that you want to be their friend.

If someone wants to be your friend, you'll be notified by email. To approve the connection, you can log into your profile and select the "Connections" tab. From here you can approve the connection request by clicking the green check mark above the thumbnail of their profile picture.

Q: How can I earn money for my articles?

A: When signing up for firehow.com, you will be asked for your tax information. If you want to earn money, you must fill out your tax information correctly. If you do not want to earn money, leave the tax information fields blank. Your earnings page will display zero for your earnings until you fill out your tax information.

You will earn money based on many factors, such as, but not limited to, how many views, comments, and ratings your articles receive.

If you earn less than $15 a month, FireHow will roll that amount over to the next month. Once your balance reaches $15 or the calendar year ends, we will pay you.

At the end of every month, if your balance reaches 15 dollars, you will be paid directly to your PayPal account. You will receive an email from PayPal when your payment has arrived.

A copy of the form will also be sent to you but you must not be subject to backup withholdings in order to qualify for the Writer’s Payment Plan. You are required to file a W9 and pay taxes on your earnings.

Q: Are there any agreements I must enter into to participate in the Writer’s Payment Plan?
