INTRODUCTION

Even though I have this article, "How to remove babylon from your computer" under viruses, the program babylon really isn't a virus, though once it gets onto your computer, you may disagree with that.  Once on your computer, babylon redirects you to their search engine, and any tabs you open up also get redirected to their search engine.  And many times babylon comes with a few extras, like a prize pop up box that keeps showing up during your searches, informing you that you have just won a free prize.

It is fairly easy to locate some of the babylon files on your computer, but some of them are hidden under names other than babylon.  In this article, I will show you step by step how I removed all of babylon's files from my computer.  My computer has windows 7, so this may be slightly different on other versions of windows.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED

a few minutes of free time

STEP 1

Go into yopur control panel and delete anything with the name babylon attaached to it.  In my case there was only one such program.

STEP 2

This next step is very important because these files are how babylon controls your tabs.  Carefully go down the list of programs and delete any files with the word tab in them, in my case, there was two such files, one named tab default, and another named tab %$#@#$, sorry, I can't recall the second half, but it was tab something or other.  The key here is you should not have any programs in your control panel that begin with the word tab.

STEP 3

Now exit control panel and return to your desktop.  Do a right click on your affected browser, and chose "Open file location."

This will open up all of the files and folders in your browser.

STEP 4

Begin by going through each of the folders, look for and delete anything with the name babylon.

STEP 5

Now turn your attention to the list of files below the folders.  Slowly look at each one, and if you see a file that begins with the word "free," delete it.  This is the file that keeps that prize box popping up when you try to do a search.

STEP 6

Now exit the browser files location and click on the browser to go online.

STEP 7

Near the top of the page, go to TOOLS and than to OPTIONS.

STEP 8

In the box where the link to your home page should be, you should see a link to babylon's home page - delete it and paste in a link to what ever home page you want.  I had to repeat this step a few times because the babylon link kept popping back up in the box.  Just keep deleting and pasting in your home page until it takes.

STEP 9

Now restart your computer.

STEP 10

Now click on your browser and go online.  There should be no signs of babylon on your home page or in the search box.

STEP 11

Now open a new tab.  If you removed all of the babylon files, the new tab should not go to the babylon home page.  If it does go to a babylon search page, go back and repeat steps 1 and 2.
