How to write a Free Verse
Many poems have structures that people have followed for many years due to the popularity that it has gotten so far. But when writing a free verse poem there is no sense of structure whatsoever; only creativity. You do not have to be a Shakesperean professional but you have to conduct a certain flow that makes sense. We just have to let everything that we are feeling and pour it out on a piece of paper. By doing this we need to follow the necessary steps: 1. We need an emotion: This can come from almost any way that you are feeling at that moment obviously. It has to be a real genuine feeling that may hae affected you positively or negatively. 2. Choose a topic: Now this intertwines with step 1 because when choosing a topic it has to relate with the mood. For example, if I am talking about death then the mood is going to be a sad one. Also, you can go online and look up different topic that may relate to you and your feelings. 3. Rhyming: Think about what your going to say and what type of flow you want to portray for the rhyme scheme of your poem. This will be hard to do but when rhyming you may have to substitute other words but with the same meaning. Again not everything is going to rhyme or relate to what you have said in the previous line because it is a free verse. 4. Take your time: Poetry itself is not meant to be rushed in any way because it is talking about your feelings. I mean would you want anybody to rush your way of thinking.....NO! So, just take your time and focus on what you would want to say because you will never know what you can accomplish. Here's an example: Roses are red Violets are blue It's hard to say how much I love you You cared for me And I cared for you back I hope our hearts will never crack.
