Various Ways to Use Chalkboard Paint Being a former teacher, I always liked using a real blackboard. White on black was so much easier to see than using a green board or a magic marker whiteboard. Sometime during the late 60's classrooms went to green boards. Then they went to whiteboards. I suppose, individuals just got tired of all the chalk dust.
This article provides some craft suggestions on how to put chalkboard paint to use. I recommend getting your chalkboard paint from a reliable paint store. You can apply this paint to metal, wood, glass, drywall, ceramics, plaster and even concrete. Once you have applied it, let it sit for three days. Once it cures, take a piece of chalk and rub the side of the chalk all over the painted area. Then clean it off. You can use an eraser, but it cleans easier with clean water and a sponge.
Craft Ideas Kitchen Cabinet Doors: Paint the doors. You can then use it to list items in the cabinet. This would be a great idea for a large kitchen or mess hall.
Flower Pots: You can place a chalkboard label on the side. You can list directions for the plant. The pot can be reused year after year.
Trash and Recycle Cans: You can easily label your recycled goods. You can easily mark names like glass, aluminum, paper and even plastic on the labels.
Tool Box and Picnic Baskets: Paint the top lid with the chalkboard paint. You can then list the items inside.
Desk Tops: Just imagine having a desk top that your children can do homework on. I recommend finding an old desk and surfacing it with this type of paint. You might also be able to do this to an office desk. Then you could list projects needed to be completed.
Refrigerator: Paint a small square on the front or side to leave family messages, menus and grocery lists.
Walls: If you could put a small square on the wall by your phone, you could jot down important phone numbers.
Wine Bottles: You can paint these and use them as candle holders and vases. Just paint over the labels that are on there. These would make excellent crafts for holiday gifts.
Basketball Courts: Paint a boxed area by the bench. Coaches can use this instead of carrying a marker board around all the time. It can even be applied to concrete courts.
Table Runner: Use a chalkboard type oilcloth as a table runner. Have plenty of markers and let your guests write or doodle away.
Drink Glasses: Labels on these make ownership of the glass easier for patrons. Friends and party individuals can write their name on their glass. They never get mixed up.
Markers: You can find various marker colors that you can use.
These are just a few craft ideas that I have come up with. I image that there are many decor designers that could come up with other ideas.
