Introduction: Black bean dip goes well as an appetizer at any occasion, but is an especially nice addition to a Mexican food themed meal. Although generally an easy dish to make from scratch, black bean dip includes cheese as an ingredient and because of this the only real way to ruin the recipe is to burn or overcook the cheese. Feel free to experiment with this recipe as there are many other ingredients that can be added to this basic starting point.

Step 1: In a large bowl add 10 ounces of sour cream, 14 ounces of canned black beans, 3 ounces of salsa, 1/2 of a medium sized onion and 2 ounces of either lemon or lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon each of salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir this mixture well and heat it in the microwave 90 seconds at a time stirring frequently until hot.Allow this to cool to room temperature and place it into a blender or food processor until the ingredients are mixed thoroughly.

Step 2: Pour this mixture into a well buttered baking dish and place into an oven heated to 325 degrees and cook for 15 minutes before removing.

Step 3: Remove the baking dish and add two ounces of shredded cheddar cheese to the top. Next add 2 ounces of shredded hot pepper cheese and a few shots of tobasco sauce. Return this to the oven until the cheese has melted before serving.
