When you want to back-up the SIM card on your mobile phone, use a SIM card reader to help prevent the possibility of data loss. Normally, the software that's included with a SIM card reader, allows you to use your computer to view, edit, create and back-up a SIM card. Inexpensive SIM card readers are priced as low as $10.00, and you can use the device to add new contacts, sort phonebook entries and manage your passwords.      Â
Instructions
Step 1:
Slide the back cover off of your mobile phone. Carefully remove the SIM card from the slot and set it aside.
Step 2:
Plug the USB connector cord on your SIM card reader into an open USB port on your computer. Windows will automatically detect the device as new device. Place the CD that came with the SIM card reader into your CD/DVD drive. After all of the drivers and software files have been installed on your computer, remove the CD from the CD/DVD drive. Â
Step 3:
Insert your mobile phone's SIM card into the SIM card reader. Double-click on the SIM card software icon and follow the onscreen instructions on how to back-up the information that you have stored on the SIM card. Â
Step 4:
Create a new folder on your desktop. Right-click on an empty space on your desktop. Select “New” from the drop-down menu. Choose “Folder” from the menu list. Create a name for the new folder.
Step 5:
Copy the SIM card contents into the new folder that you just created on your desktop. After you have copied all of your phonebook entries on the SIM card, move the folder to an external storage device like a USB flash drive. Store the device in a safe place.
Step 6:
Reinsert the SIM card back into your mobile phone and replace the back cover. Â
Tips:
When purchasing a SIM card reader, there are few things that you should consider. If you only want to back-up the phonebook entries on your mobile phone, choose an inexpensive SIM card reader. More expensive SIM card readers usually have a faster transfer rate, and a lifetime warranty. The manufacturer will also replace the device if it is defective. Various SIM card readers are compatible with all types of SIM cards, regardless of the type of phone model that you own. The SIM card software often has more features that allows you to update and manage your mobile phone's pin codes, and synchronize your information with Yahoo! Contacts and Google Contacts.
