How to Pursue Your Dream |

I must warn right here at the beginning – this article is not about fantasy or wishful thinking. Pursuing your dream and making it come true will require planning, willpower and self-discipline. If you are lacking in any of these areas, it isn’t going to happen. First, determine what your dream is and ask yourself, is it possible? Will my pursuit of it be detrimental in any way to my family or anyone else? If the answer is yes to the first and no to the second, then you are ready for serious planning. Your heart’s desire is probably, at least to some degree, not so easy to obtain or you would already have it. Neither should you set your sights so high that you have a very small chance to make them a reality. A dream, for our purposes, is nothing more than a goal. You have to have a heart-to-heart talk with yourself and determine exactly what is needed to reach your goal and making your dream come true. I cannot tell you what that is here because only you know what is needed. You may require money. You may need to acquire skill in a certain area. You may need to enlist help from others and you more than likely need a long term plan. By now, you should understand that preparation on your part is crucial. My dream was becoming a published author and freelance writer. You probably know enough about this field of endeavor to have some idea of the effort I put into it before it became a dream come true. I will tell you, I have many years of experience now and it still is not easy to get published but have had enough success to be able to say my dream has come true for me. The will power and self-discipline are even more difficult than forming a long term plan. There is much in this life to discourage and cause us to lose our way. There are times, when things do not go well, that only the will to keep going keeps our hopes alive. The self-discipline to keep working your plan in the face of discouragement is often the difference between ultimate success or failure. Keep at it and do not give up. Allow me to offer some unexpected friendly advice -- There is a time for many of us when we see that our dream goal is simply not doable. It seemed like a good idea when we started but now see, for whatever the reason or reasons, that it just is not going to become a reality. Do not be afraid to lay aside an old dream if it is clearly unobtainable. However, guard against giving up too soon. But, with a reasonable goal, planning, preparation, a stick with it attitude and, yes, a measure of good luck, chances are excellent your dream will someday come true. So, allow me to be the first to wish you Good luck! But, if you are determined, you won’t need as much of that as you may believe.

... Willpower, self-discipline and motivation are key to achieving any goal. Lack of money often gets in the way, also family responsibilities. But of everything, I think motivation is most important. So many people lose hope, and settle for less. Thanks. |
