When your laptop mouse pad needs to be cleaned off, the best way to remove dirt, grime and oil residue from your fingers is by using several items that can help keep it clean. Use lint-free anti-static wipes and swabs to clean your laptop's mouse pad. You can also use Isopropyl alcohol and mild soap to clean the external parts, but make certain that you do not pour any liquids onto the exterior of your laptop computer.
Things You Will Need:
Mild soap Isopropyl alcohol Antistatic wipes and swabs Cotton cloth or paper towels
Instructions
Step 1:
Unplug and power off your laptop from the electrical outlet to prevent an electrical shock and possibly damaging your machine.
Step 2:
Use a damp clean cloth to remove any dirt, grime and oil build up from the mouse pad. Dampen a cotton cloth or paper towel with water, then add a mild soap to it. Make sure the cloth or paper towel is not too wet or dripping. Remove any excessive water before working on your laptop.
Step 3:
Wipe off the surface of the mouse pad. Gently wipe the mouse pad until it is clean and no longer has any dirt, grime or oil build up on it. Use antistatic wipes and swabs to remove any embedded dirt from the corners of the mouse pad.
Step 4:
Moisten a clean cotton cloth or paper towel with Isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the surface of the mouse pad again to help remove any remaining oil and residue. Always pour liquids onto a cloth or paper towel first. Avoid working directly over your laptop because spilled liquids can damage the electronics on the machine.
Step 5:
Plug your laptop power cords back into an electrical outlet after the mouse pad or the exterior is completely dry.
Tips
You should clean your mouse pad regularly because dirt, grime and oil build up from your fingers can decrease the sensitivity of the mouse pad. Avoid touching the mouse pad if your fingers are sweaty. The oil from your fingers may change the color of the mouse pad and cause damage to the mouse pad sensors.
Warnings
Do not use various types of commercial cleaning products to clean the exterior of your laptop. They may leave a residue and attract even more dirt and oil build up on the mouse pad. If your laptop mouse pad stops responding or you're experiencing problems with it, you may need to replace the mouse pad sensor. Be sure to refer to your user's manual for further instructions on how to replace the mouse pad.
