Mother’s Day is a time to say thank you to a mother, grandmother, mother-in-law or someone special who has played an important maternal role in your life.

The occasion tends to be marked with a card, a visit, a celebratory meal and sometimes a special gift.

Children like to show their affection by creating handmade cards and treating their mother to breakfast in bed. They may want to give Mum a day off from the chores and lend an extra hand around the home.

Traditional Mother’s Day treats include a bouquet of flowers, a box of chocolates or a family lunch at a favourite restaurant. Several generations may come together for the day and any mother or grandmother will tell you that one of the most precious gift of all is time spent with close family and friends.

From time to time, however, saying thank you will involve choosing a Mother’s Day present that will become a treasured keepsake. Perhaps a delicate item of jewellery with a feminine touch such as a butterfly necklace.

The choice of gift will depend on the personality of the Mum receiving the gift. If she enjoys writing letters or diaries then she may like to receive a high quality fountain pen and she will be certain to know that careful thought has gone into any gift that matches a hobby or passion.

Nothing shows emotion better than the motif of a heart and what better way to say thank you for years of love than with a silver heart necklace?

It is always best to deliver your gift in person but every mother understands that this isn’t always possible and a gift that comes from a loved one far away will be a valuable reminder that she is being thought of on this very special day.
