Nook Color DisplayThe Nook Color reader device from Barnes and Noble is a wonderful device, but many owners are left with the question of how to clean the Nook Color screen.  The Barnes and Noble website warns not to get the screen wet in any way with any type of liquid.  This is understandable, since liquids and electronics typically do not mix, however, when there are potato chip fingerprints from the last time you let your child watch a movie on the Nook, what is the best way to clean the touch screen display?

In order to clean the screen, a little care and common sense is needed.  Borrowing from instructions on cleaning the iPad display screen, the best way of cleaning the Nook Color screen is using a soft, microfiber cloth and a small amount of distilled water.

Supplies you will need:

Lint-free microfiber cloth

Distilled water

Camera cleaning air bulb blower

Instruction on how to clean the Nook Color screen:

1. Remove the Nook Color from the case or any cover that has been installed.  Turn off the power and remove the headphone cord and USB cord, if inserted.

2. Blow away the loose dirt and debris from the touch screen using a camera bulb blower.  Camera bulb blowers can be purchased in any camera department or specialty store.  Removing this loose material will help to avoid scratching the screen.

3. Inspect the touch screen and look for any large hard particles that are stuck which would result in scratching the screen when it is rubbed.  Carefully remove stuck on pieces, if found without rubbing or scratching the screen.

4. Drip a few drops of distilled water on the microfiber cloth.  Get the cloth damp, but not wet.

5. Carefully wipe the Nook's screen with the microfiber cloth.  Avoid pressing too hard.

6. Take a look at the Nook Color screen and inspect your effort.  If it looks clean in bright light then you did a good job.  If there are still fingerprints and dirt on the screen repeat steps 4 and 5 as needed.
