Hair trends in style and color are leaning more towards the wild edge than before. We've been in a bit of a conservative trend (kind of goes with the whole recession thing), but with the economy on a slight upswing, it seems to have put everyone in a better mood, and has people going for a bit more edginess in the fashion industry including hairstyles and colors. Choosing the right color for your skin tone, face shape and desired outcome are all an integral part of today's hair trends. But what never goes out of style is personality. Fashion is YOU. That’s the best advice you could ever receive… whatever looks best on you, is the most in-style you could be. So just remember, "What's in, is what looks good on you." Keep these few pointers in mind if you're considering changing your hair color: The same goes for all fashion, including hairstyles and color, especially hair trends which seem to spike up when things are going well. Keep these few pointers in mind if you're considering changing your style:
When you've chosen to go brunette, be sure to check the color swatches in different lighting, such as direct sun- light and fluorescent lighting. Brunettes can look fabulous if the right shade is chosen to accentuate your skin tone. Think about adding a few highlights and always choose two tones lighter than your natural base color for better color combinations to add depth and dimension.) Amber shades can be added for warmer tones, and oakey/ashey shades for cooler tones. Be careful to match your shade of brunette to your skin tone or it will clash and make you look sallow or off-color. Lots of celebrities are going for the multi-toned colors for lots of body and dimension. Red Head: Red heads are big right now, and there are so many shades of red, it will make your head spin. If you want to go red, make sure you choose the right shade of red for you. Punk-rock pink highlights probably won’t go over well at the office (but you could always buy the clip-on colorful highlights to add spunk to your weekend out with the girls). Don't pick a cool shade of red if you have warm undertones, and vice-versa. Red is a power color, so if you’re feeling like you need to add a bit of spark to your attitude, throw in some red and that should do the trick. If you have an ultra-fair to tan and tawny skin tone, try a coppery auburn with a wash of strawberry highlights, it will look gorgeous, but forget it if you're olive or darker skin tone. Blonde & highlighting: Blondes are fun, no matter what they say… and believe me, I’ve heard all the jokes.. (thank goodness I’m only blonde by bottle, heh, heh, though some I know might say all that peroxide has seeped into my brain… LOL). If you want to be blonde, make sure your hair is in good condition. Give it a rest between colorings and give it a super-boost of nutrition and conditioning before stripping all the color out of your hair. And if you only want to add highlights, make sure they are the right shade for your coloring, whether, warm or cool, this makes a big difference, too. Many long-time blondes are ditching the all-over single color light-blonde or platinum look, and going for the bronzing and natural blonde shades mixed in with their real hair color for super dimensional looks. Bronzing is beautiful, and adding a few highlights around your face can make a gigantic impact on your overall look. For those who were blondes as children (and don’t like to admit they are now light brunettes) try a base of toffee blonde that is accented with thick or thin ribbons of caramel and straw colors. This look is also great on fair to pinkish tones vs. yellow tones as this is too similar of a color and clashes. Don’t forget about the clip-on extensions for fun.. there are tons of different colors to experiment with, or add a wild splash of color to your outfit. Think of them as accessories, changing your look with the change of your moods. As far as other hair trends and celebrities go... pretty much anything goes. If you take a good look at the celebrity; their style, hair color, make up, clothing and accessories almost always match their personality. Just look at Lady Gaga, or Katy Perry, Julia Roberts, Jennifer Aniston, Beyonce, or Halle Berry; their styles match their personalities perfectly... that's why they pay their assistants good money, helping them look as great as they possibly can! (Ok, maybe not Lady Gaga.. but hey, she definitely has made a name for her "little monster" style!).
