How to know when to fire your doctor, has always been a question that most people try to avoid asking. Why? One reason is that everyone seems to think that their doctor is the best one. To say otherwise, is a let down to themselves. But, let's face the facts here. When you health care worker, provides less than satisfactory service, and continues to do so, on a regular basis, it's time to fire the doctor, and find yourself a new one. Perferably, you will want to do this all on the same day, so that your health care is not interupted, especially if you are taking medications.
One example of a time, when you should consider firing the doctor is if they start neglecting your health care. By this, i mean only giving you a two minute exam, and missing half the important details. I recently encountered such as this with a doctor that i have been seeing on a regular basis for eleven years.
Another example, is if the doctor says that you need medication, and prescribes something that you are obviously allergic to. All this information is on the charts, so there is no excuse for a doctor to continue repeatedly making this mistake, as mine did.
Another, is not giving you medications, when it's obvious that you need medication.
Sending you for more xrays than is necessary, is another sign that you may need to consider another doctor. Too many xrays is not good for anyone. Mine was in excess of 7 to 10 a year, just so he could say he had one on file. I never did know the results of most of the xrays.
A doctor who repeatedly does things, that he or she, knows that you do not like, is time to consider other options.
