How to Make a Flag Cake for the Holidays

This cake is a great delight to add to your holiday celebrations for Fourth of July, Flag Day or any patriotic holiday. I use a butter cake mix but you can make your own if you like, just leave the cake in the pan or take it out to decorate. This delicious Flag Cake recipe is beautiful adored with fresh blueberries and strawberries and make a statement to any holiday table.

Ingredients needed to make a Flag Cake:
1 pint Blueberries
2 quarts Strawberries
1 Large sized container of Cool Whip brand topping, or whipped cream
Butter yellow cake mix

Directions for making Flag Cake:
Step 1: Wash blueberries and remove any bad spots or stems.
Step 2: Wash and hull strawberries, and cut then in half
Step 3: Bake butter yellow cake mix in 9-inch x 13-inch pan, following directions on the box.
Step 4: Cool cake, either remove from pan and put on serving platter or leave in pan.
Step 5: Frost cake top and sides with Cool Whip or whipped cream.
Step 6: Starting on the top left hand corner of cake place as many blueberries are you can fit in.
Step 7: Next place strawberry halves in lines starting at the top of cake, make sure they are facing the strawberries in the same direction, with the tops of the strawberries facing the blueberries and on down the cake to make your stripes. Place the strawberries as close together as you can and make a straight line.
Step 8: Refrigerate cake.

Tips:
The more fruit you use the better the cake!
Use your favorite homemade cake recipe.
Homemade whipped cream is delicious on the cake.

Warning:
Make sure you wash and clean the fruit well.
Keep cake refrigerated.
