When people think of health they do not think of their eyes. They care for their body but overlook their eye health and because of this neglect, many people by the time they reach age 39 are having difficulty reading fine print. If they continue to ignore their eye health they may develop cataracts, blurred vision and Mucular Degeneration. You can prevent these eye disorders simply by keeping your eyes healthy. Step 1 Care for yourself and your family by making an appointment for a full exam by an ophthalmologist. Your children should have an eye exam before they start grade school and then continue to get regular checkups to keep their eyes healthy. Step 2 Start an eye smart diet by eating foods that are high in antioxidants; broccoli, raw cabbage, carrots cauliflower, green vegetables, sunflower seeds, watercress. Eat raw green and orange vegetables, fruits high in vitamin C and get plenty of the nutrients A, E and zinc. Step 3 Avoid sun exposure; always wear protective sunglasses when you are outdoors. Avoid outdoor activity when ultra violet sun exposure, 11am - 4pm is the most dangerous. UV rays are the leading cause of cataracts. Tips: Take a multivitamin daily which has high vitamin A and C. Warning: Eye strain can cause headaches. Have your eyes examined as you may need glasses. ___________________________________________ Image Credit: Chance Agrella at Freerangestock.com
