How to Keep Cat Hydrated |

Cats like humans need water to sustain their health and well being. A cat can skip meals however they need to hydrate their bodies to prevent illness; bladder infection and cysts will occur if the cat is not hydrated. Many cats show no interest in their water bowl and so pet owners must entice their cat to drink more water. If your cat shows signs of illness and is staring at the water bowl, but not drinking then contact your veterinarian. Otherwise for all other cats that need to be coaxed into drinking more water, follow these steps to keep your cat hydrated. Step 1 Determine your cat's water intake. Measure the amount of water going into your cat’s bowl. At the end of the day pour the water back into the measuring cup. A 10 lb cat needs ¾ to 1 cup fluid intake per day to keep their body hydrated. (Cat will require less water if they are eating canned food) Step 2 Change out your cat's water several time a day. Each time you change the water clean the bowl with an antibacterial dish soap this will ensure that the water is fresh and clean. Fill the bowl with filtered water. Filtered water does not have an odor and it tastes better than tap water. Step 2 Allow cat easy access to water. Set one bowl of water by their feeding station, a bowl in the playroom and one by their bed. Step 3 Add interest to cat’s water with a water fountain. Cats overall are attracted to motion and. Many cats prefer to drink form the faucet because the water is moving, cold and it is clean. A fountain will please cats need for running water and they will drink more and thus their body will be hydrated. Step 4
Feed cat a premium canned cat food. Measure out the amount of food needed for your cat’s weight. For half can add two tablespoons of filtered water or organic chicken stock. Mix the food and liquid well. Feed cats twice a day to insure proper fluid intake. Step 5 Add cat milk to diet. Cat milk is formulated for cat’s dietary needs and will not upset their digestive tract. Cat milk is 98% lactose free and is enriched with taurine; for your cat’s heart and eye health. Also calcium enriched for bone and teeth health. The fluid content in cat milk will aid in keeping your cat hydrated.
Enhance your cat’s water flavor by adding 1 teaspoon of tuna flavored spring water to your cats bowl and mix well. You can also add 1 teaspoon of organic chicken stock.
