Get a new cell phone cheap! If your cell phone is old and tired, you may be postponing a visit to the cell phone store out of dread in adding yet another 2 years to your contract. The cell providers like the locked in customers this provides, thus they continue to subsidize the cost of new phones. If you are looking to break out of this cycle, or just to get a decent phone replacement cheap, you've come to the right place. 1.  Go to Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, or any large consumer electronics store. It's a good idea to take your old cell phone with you, but not absolutely necessary. 2.  Locate the prepaid cell phones section of the store and start shopping for one you like. It's best to get a prepaid cell from the same carrier you are already using on your old phone but may not be absolutely necessary. 3.  Shop for the features you want. Prepaid cell phones are now available with quite a few features, some are even comparable to some of the smartphones currently on the market. Shop carefully and be sure you get bluetooth, a big screen, a QWERTY keyboard, access to the web and email, and anything else you want. 4.  Purchase the phone, be sure you don't get anything activated on any type of contract. Buy with a credit card for the best in purchase protection. 5.  Remove the sim card from your old phone and put it in your newly purchased phone. Charge the battery and read the owners manual. When the phone is charged, power it up and enjoy! Your normal service and phone number will follow you to your new phone. You can now celebrate your success in avoiding renewing your cell phone contract! Tips & Warnings If the new phone comes with some minutes included, they MAY transfer to your existing account if the prepaid cell is with the same carrier. Read your instruction manual to be sure. Donate your old cell phone to a charitable cause for recycling, don't throw it away. Check out another of my how-to articles here: How to Sell Used Books  Â
