Introduction: Animal welfare and protection is important to every animal lover, and as we rush through our hectic daily schedules the desire to help in the cause may be present, however we may feel as though time is lacking. Step 1: It would appear to most among us that the demands of volunteering our energies would be exceptional, at least in the perspective that the need for assistance from volunteers at local animal shelters is vast and growing annually. While there has been and most likely will always be a need for volunteerism in the area of animal welfare, it needs to be viewed as a singular personal issue, in what contribution each of us individually can contribute to the overall improvement of circumstances for animals not only in our local communities, but nationally and globally as well. Step 2: From a local perspective, we can each get involved with our local animal organizations by donating a small amount of time weekly or monthly. This time can be spent doing something as simple as dog walking, cleaning or just playing with animals to keep them mentally alert and sociable. The time we give of ourselves not only benefits the animals greatly, but may save the shelter money in that they may not have to spend as much of their financial resources on employees. The camaraderie and sense of community will be an instantaneous benefit to each volunteer, not the mention the affection that will poured upon each as the interact with an incredible variety of animal personalities, secure in the knowledge that their kindness and concern is recognized immediately. While it may appear that a volunteer is participating in a charitable act, most walk away feeling they have benefited much more than they gave of their time and effort. Tips: Investigate your options - there are plenty of ways to help animal rescue efforts.
