How To Make Hot Tamale Pie Casserole

Introduction:  Hot tamale pie casserole is delicious, quick and easy to prepare. This family favorite will have people asking for second helpings. This dish is a great one to take to pot-luck dinners, but be prepared with the recipe because you're sure to be asked for a copy.  Enjoy!! 

You Will Need:

1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

1 medium size chopped onion

2 cups stewed tomatoes

One 8 ounce can tomato sauce

2 cups whole kernal corn

1 cup sliced, ripe olives

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 minced  garlic clove

1/4 cup chopped jalepeno pepper (with seeds removed)

Slillet, greased 8 x 12 inch baking pan (or) large casserole dish

Step 1.  In skillet, brown ground beef and onion; add tomatoes, sauce, corn, olives, jalepeno peppers and seasonings and cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes.

Step 2.  Pour into well greased baking pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 

 

You Will Need For Topping:

1 1/2 cups milk

1/2 cup cornmeal

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1 teaspoon salt

2 lightly beaten eggs

1 cup shedded sharpe cheddar cheese

1 Medium bowl

Step 1.  In bowl, mix the milk, cornmeal, butter and salt; stir until thick. Add eggs and cheese; mix well.

Step 2.  Pour over meat mixture. Bake until top is browned, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Tips:  For a hotter pie, don't remove seeds of jalepeno pepper before chopping. You can use green bell pepper for a no-hot pie.

Warning:  Always use oven mitts when removing pan from the oven.
