Introduction: Changing the spark plugs in a car is a simple task that can be completed in under 15 minutes, and can save a car owner a few dollars in the process. When completed, the new spark plugs will ensure that your car performs better and enables better gas mileage for months to come.

Step 1: The first step to change spark plugs in a car is to determine how many spark plugs you need to purchase. For example, a four cylinder car uses 4 spark plugs, a six cylinder car uses 6 spark plugs etc. While at the auto parts store you'll also need to purchase a spark plug setting gauge and obtain the proper gap setting for your car model.

Step 2; After obtaining the plugs and gauge, open the car's hood and locate where each spark plug is situated. Remove the spark plug wire from the plug by simply pulling it off. Remove the old spark plug and discard it.

Step 3: Using the spark plug gauge open the spark plug end to the proper gap setting and carefully install it in the correct position, then attach the spark plug wire back in place.

Step 4: Remove and install spark plugs one at a time until each old spark plug has been replaced with a new one.

Tips: Make certain not to tighten the new spark plugs too hard - when the ceramic breaks the spark plug can be tough to remove.
