Regardless of how hard we try, we can still end up with sour smelling clothes from time to time. There are things that one can do when it comes to fixing this kind of problem. Once you understand how to take of the problem, you can avoid future problems when it comes to sour smelling clothes.

There are many things that can make your clothes have that yucky sour smell after washing them. Of we just automatically think we need to rewash them, but understanding what they cause of the problem is very important. Overcrowding the wash machine with too many cloths or leaving them in the washing machine for too or the dryer to long are some of the most common causes. Keep reading for some great tips on how to permanently remove the offensive odors.

The very first step that must be taken is of course reloading the wash machine with the right amount of clothing. You should then fill the wash machine to its maximum amount with water. You can do this easily by choosing the maximum size clothing wash. Getting as much water into the wash machine is a great way to ensure that any dirt, debris or yucky odors will be removed. You should also make sure that you chose to have the water temperature on the hottest level that you can without hurting any of the cloths inside of the washer. Remember some clothes can not be washed in hot water, but most of them can.

Once the wash machine has finished adding all the water, make sure to add your detergent. You should only use the recommended amount that is shown on the packaging of the detergent. Once that has been added, you will need to then add cup of baking soda to the clothes and water. Baking soda is being used by many leading detergent manufacturers. It can really neutralize any of the odors that are found to be on your laundry, seriously working wonders!

If the clothing you have really have one powerful sour smell, you may consider stopping the wash machine and letting the clothing soak for just a while after the agitation cycle. The soaking will allow the detergent and the baking soda to really do their job. After the agitation and soaking cycle, you then need to allow the washer to drain and refill with the water to rinse the clothing. With this step here, add a ½ cup of vinegar to the clothing. It may sound weird, but vinegar is actually a great item to help neutralize odors and it can help rinse out other unwanted items during the rinse cycle.

Once the washer has completed its complete washing cycle, you them need to immediately place the clothing into the dryer. Place the drying setting on the hottest setting, but be on guard for clothing that can really shrink or not withstand heat. Once the clothing have been completely dry, you will need to fold or hang them to prevent any further sour smell from happening by being left sitting to long. If the clothing still feels a little damp, make sure to dry them just a bit more and make sure to fold or hang them promptly.
