Before bringing the newest addition home, begin to work with your dog on a daily basis. You will have to teach your dog the very basic manner movements such as sit, stay, no and down. You will need to also work very closely with your dog to teach him specific movements when it comes to biting. If your dog tends to be more jumpy than anything, you will need to teach him the command of no or down. This teaching tends to go great when you reward your dog with small treats so he or she knows they are not being punished for something. You will have to get your dog used to the sound of crying since a baby can sometimes cry quite a lot. Some dogs can be frightened by the sound and some are not. You may consider recording a crying baby and playing it a couple of times during the day. While you play the recording try feeding your dog or giving it treats. When the crying stops, stop feeding the dog and repeat this exercise. This help the dog to get a sense of pleasure and think that good things are going on when a baby is crying. You will want to start practicing leash walking with the stroller. If your dog does an amazing job while walking with the stroller make sure to reward it with yummy treats. The dog may be nervous at first, but should get the hang of it later on. Start this kind of training kind of slowly then move to a more familiar kind of routine. You will need to get amped up with the crate training and the toy training. Make sure to get your dog used to the crate again and the many different times that it will have to be in the crate. You will need to help the dog distinguish between what its toys are and what the babies toys are. This is going to be a type of drop it or no command training. Once the baby arrives, allow the dog to get the smell of the baby, by letting it smell some of the babies clothing and blankets. Allow it to get familiar with the smell and then bring baby home. You will need to work with the dog to understand patience when it comes to the baby and what he can or cannot do. Remember to reward the dog with treats when it has done well. To ensure the training and the dogs confidence.
