How to Throw an Elbow Strike

While learning and practicing martial arts, you will come to a point where you will learn the technique of the elbow strike, which is very effective for self defense. The elbow strike can be done with either arm and the point that hits the target is the forearm near the elbow. This technique is in fact used mainly for self defense purposes because typically when one is competing it is not allowed due to the damages it can cause the opponent.

Things You'll Need: Gloves Mouth piece Punching Pad Step 1

Position yourself in either a right foot forward stance or normal stance (with the feet slightly apart) but your knees a bit bent.

Step 2

Bring your right foot forward to put in line with your opponents midline.

Step 3

Bring your arm (the one that will strike) with your hand a little bit lower than your shoulder and the elbow reaching up.

Step 4

Bring your left foot up a bit and strike with your elbow.
