Introduction:

Familiarizing your boxer puppy on their first day in your home is very important as your puppy is accustomed to a routine and you and your home is frightening.  Boxers are high-energy dogs so they need utmost care.  An ideal family for a boxer would be calm, caring and one that will nurture their puppy as well as train the boxer with a daily routine. Take the time to familiarize your dog on their first day and you will build a strong bond with your boxer puppy.

Things you will need to care for boxer puppy on their first day in your home

Assorted boxer guide and training books, dog crate, dog bed, your dirty piece of clothing for master scent, dog food, food and water bowls, dog collar and leash, blanket or sheet. dog chew bones and toys, fenced in yard,  puppy playroom with gate, and a plan for a daily routine

Step 1

Gather your family to discuss household puppy rules.  Decide on a daily exercise routine.  Designate one person to train the puppy.  Decide on the name for your puppy.

Step 2

Prepare your home by removing anything small that would be harmful to your new boxer puppy. You must puppy-proof your home prior to bringing your boxer home.

Step 3

Set up a puppy playroom.  This room will be where the puppy will stay when they are inside the house.  In this room, you will have the dog crate, toys, food and water bowl. A gate at the doorway is good; as long as puppy can see their family, they will be content.  Never close off a puppy with a door, isolation is not advisable.  A closed door will be stressful for your boxer puppy.

Step 4

Put other pets, cats or dogs in another room. It is better to familiarize the pets to the puppy in a few days.  Allow the puppy to get use to their new home before introducing other pets.  Supervise all new pet introductions

Step 5

Take the dog crate and a bed sheet or blanket with you when you pick up your boxer puppy.  Add bedding and some chew toys in the crate.  Cover the crate with a sheet after you put the puppy inside.  The blanket will comfort the dog.  Turn off the radio, as it is better to talk to your puppy on the way home.  Your voice needs to be soft and soothing.  If you sing, sing softly to your boxer puppy.

Step 6

Bring the puppy inside your home and set the crate on the floor in the puppy room.  Open the crate and allow your boxer to investigate the room.  Refrain from picking up your boxer puppy.  Allow your boxer puppy to acclimate to their new home..

Step 7

Sit on the floor with your puppy.  Comfort your puppy by talking to them and petting them. Your puppy will miss their mother and their siblings. The first day in their new home will be stressful.

Step 8

Supervise children and pets when they interact with the puppy. Continue to supervise until all are comfortable and the puppy has developed a good relationship.
