How to Get Rid of Raccoons

Introduction:

Get rid of raccoons before they take over your yard, gardens and break into your attic.  If your home is located close to a park, or wooded area then raccoons may be visiting you at night.  Raccoon are mischievous.  They will remove the screens from your windows, and doors then enter your home.  They need not be hungry to enter your home or garage, raccoons are naturally curious as to what is going on. If the mischievous raccoons are hanging out in your yard and garden then follow these tips on how to get rid of raccoons.

Step 1

Cut off the food chain.  Achieve this by removing all food access.  Do away with your pet’s overnight food bowls and take in the bird feeders at night.  Yards without food are not attractive to raccoons.

Step 2

Turn off your water fountains at night.  Raccoons have nerves in their hands and enjoy washing hands in water.  Take away the water and they will pass up your yard and seek water elsewhere.

Step 3

Conceal your trashcans by keeping them in the garage or get cans with locking lids.  Trashcans to raccoons are an invitation to a midnight buffet.  Take the buffet away and they will find your yard unappealing.

Step 4

Lock your windows, doors and shut the pet doors too.  Raccoons are able to remove the screen stripping and enter your home easily.

Step 5

Buy Shake-Away granular raccoon repellant.  Apply the repellant by marking areas in your yard with the scent. This product works best if your mark your property like the predator; on a tree, fence post, shrub, corner of house or garage.  Send out the message to the raccoons that this is your area and if they cross the line they could be eaten by the Coyotes.  The urine grains are a way to sc are raccoons from your yard.  Reapply the pest once a week.  The raccoon repellent will lose potency if it gets wet.

Step 6

Refrain from feeding raccoons.  If a baby, raccoon shows up in your yard.  Do not feed it.  If you feed one raccoon, you will be feeding the entire colony of raccoons.  Do not disturb the natural balance of wild animals.

Tips:

Trapping may seem like a logical method to remove one raccoon from your property however if you have one raccoon eating your dogs food, knocking over the trashcans or bathing in your pond you have the entire raccoon colony.  The best way to control your raccoon problem is to determine what attracts the raccoon to your yard.  Make the necessary changes to your yard to discourage raccoons.  Trapping raccoons is about as successful as trapping squirrels.
