How to Find the Owner of a Domain Name

Intro: Domain names are reserved by individuals and corporations to create destinations or websites for users that access the internet. Registration of a domain name is done by a registrar that assigns domain names for a top level domain, such as .com, .net or .org address. Domain name registrars include companies such as Register.com, Network Solutions and GoDaddy.com.

You can get domain name owners from the WHOIS lookup available at any registrar's website.

Register.com

Step 1: Go to the register.com web site and click on the “Whois Lookup” link under the Get a Domain Name text box.

Step 2: Enter the domain or website address whose owner information you want to get. Be sure to include the .net, .com or other suffix at the end of the domain. Click the “Find It” button to continue.

Step 3: Enter the Captcha code into the text box and click the “Continue” button.

Step 4: Scroll down the page to view the Registrant, Administrative Contact and Technical Contact information for the domain.

Network Solutions

Step 1: Go to the Network Solutions website and click on the “WHOIS” link that is in the WebAddress section of the web page.

Step 2: Enter the domain or website address whose owner information you want to get. Be sure to enter the .net, .com or other suffix at the end of the domain.

Step 3: Select the option to search by “Domain Name” or “IP Address” and then click the “Search” button to continue.

Step 4: Scroll down the page to view the Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and Registrant Contact information for the domain.

GoDaddy.com

Step 1: Go to the GoDaddy.com site and click on the “WHOIS search” option located towards the middle of the page.

Step 2: Enter the name for the domain or website into the text box and select the suffix type. Click the “GO” button to continue.

Step 3: Scroll through the result on the page to view the Administrative Contact, Technical Contact and the Registrant Contact for the domain.

Warnings

Domain name owners can have their contact information hidden on the results page by a third party.
