The world is filled with all kinds of wonderful animals but ants in your kitchen can turn even the most humane animal lover into a hunter. Ants, flies, roaches and mice can turn your home into a war zone. Plus they can introduce disease or aggravate asthma and allergies with their droppings. Here are some home remedies that do not require chemicals to eliminate the pests that are invading your space. Ant Remedy Save cucumber peelings and mix them with salt. Place the mixture ants are a problem. Good-bye to Flies: Flypaper Mix equal amounts of castor oil and melted resin (available at any hardware store). Spread the sticky mixture with a warm knife on a non-porous paper such as magazine or catalog covers. Remember to leave a clean edge so that you can handle the sticky coated paper. Place anywhere flies are gathering. More Ways to Get Rid of Flies To keep flies out of the house, mix equal amounts of bay leaf pieces, coarsely ground cloves, broken eucalyptus leaves and clover blossoms. Place this blend in small mesh bags. The bags can be made from old nylons or loosely woven fabric. Hang just inside entrance doors to repel flies. Roach Control Place shallow pans or fruit jar lids containing powdered borax in dark corners of the house, especially around the kitchen, sink and cabinets. Replace with fresh borax once a week. Do not allow any food waste or pet food to accumulate in infested areas. Mice Control Mix corn meal and cement, half-and-half. Place in shallow containers where mice run. This is usually along walls. Do not let pets or children near the containers.
