Introduction: Veterinary care for your pets can be expensive, but by doing a bit of investigation you can find a cheap veterinarian that is both affordable and competent.

Step 1: Ask your friends - word of mouth about a good vet with reasonable prices travels fast, and chances are that someone you know has the perfect veterinarian that is right for your needs.

Step 2 : You can find a cheap veterinarian by making telephone calls of inquiry. Don't be afraid to ask about fees and charges over the phone - these will make your list of possible veterinarians very short very quickly.

Step 3: Contact your local Humane Society or animal shelter to find a cheap veterinarian - they often realize that many people simply don't have the funds to spend on expensive veterinary care and are usually more than willing to help.

Step 4: Get your pet a health insurance plan and take your animals to a veterinarian that accepts these policies. Pet health insurance plans can be as cheap as $10 to $15 per month per pet and can save a pet owner thousands of dollars.

Tips: All because a veterinarian is cheap does not mean that they are not qualified or good at what they do - follow your instincts.

Warnings: Be weary of a veterinarian that is not open and up front concerning their fees.
