How to make buttermilk biscuits

These are great to make with dinner. They are great with roasts and potaoes and gravy . They are very hearty and are best when warm.

                                                      YOU WILL NEED:

4 CUPS FLOUR

1 CUP BUTTERMILK

1 1/4 TEASPOONS SALT

2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER

1 PACKAGE OF YEAST

1/2 CUP WARM WATER

1 1/2 TABLESPOONS SUGAR

1/3 CUP BUTTER FLAVORED SHORTENING

1 TABLESPOON BUTTER

STEP 1. In a sauce pan heat buttermilk until it is bubbling. This will cause it to curdle which you want. Remove from heat set aside to cool.

STEP 2. In a large bowl add flour, salt, and baking powder, mix. Add your shortening  and cut into the flour with a fork. Get your warm water add yeast, stir until dissolved. Mix yeast mixture to your cooled buttermilk.

STEP 3. Make a hole in the center of your flour and pour you wet ingredients into it and cut through it to mix with a fork. Make sure it is well mixed the dough should be stiff. Place your dough on a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes.

Step 4. roll your dough to 1/2 inch thick and cut with a biscuit cutter. Prick the tops of each with a fork and cover and let rise for about 30-40 minutes. Pre heat oven to 400. Rub butter over the top before placing in oven. Bake for 10-14 minutes until golden brown.

ou  can make the buiscuts and freeze the uncooked biscuits for up to 3 months. Defrost and let rise and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
