The Protocol for Ghost Hunting

With Halloween a many weeks away, paranormal activity increases among those, who like the adrenalin rush of the ghost hunt. This article takes a look at the protocol of ghost hunting.

First, you have to decide where to go. There are several ideal places to go looking for ghosts. Places like old warehouses, schools, houses and cemeteries are great places to look. Old houses from the late 1800's and early 1900's are especially good.

Once you have an area selected, do the proper things first. Ask for permission from the owners or caretakers. Do not trespass. You might even get more help than you asked for. Research your building or area. Check the history of the place. Community libraries and museums, should have plenty of information about the places you intend to check out.

When you decide to go, pick a date and a time. Night time is always good, but not necessary. Quiet places and places without glares or light emissions are best. You should always go with one or two partners. Never go alone. If you have a large group, send smaller groups in directions of North, South, East and West. This is especially a good idea in a cemetery.

Equipment for ghost hunting includes a camera and a tape recorder. It is important, that when you take pictures, you take pictures without rain, smog or snow. Your lens must be clean (spotless). Avoid mirrors and shiny tombstones in cemeteries. They will provide a glare on the pictures you take. Use of the recorder, should be in total silence.

Ideal places to look for ghosts are dark corners, stairways, closets and halls. Basements and attics are also good places to look. Cameras and video recorders are great, but just as important is sound or tape recorders.

1. Always use new tapes and batteries for your devices.

2. Never whisper when you communicate with a partner. Talk in a normal voice.

3. Talk to ghosts. Even if you don't see them, talk to them in a non-threatening voice.

4. Always remain positive; show no fear.

5. Set your unit to voice activation, if you remain quiet.

6. Always state location, date, time and weather.

7. Pay close attention to any background noise from other things.

8. Never ask the question, "Is anyone there?" No horsing around. Take your effort seriously.

9. Keep in mind that ghost voices are very soft and quiet. Because they are not a material object, they have a hard time making noises with sound. They rely on moving air masses in other ways to produce a sound.

10. When you are finished, always thank the ghost for their response.

Do not be afraid to evoke the help of God. He is the only one that has sole control over any spirit or ghost.

Halloween is a great time of the year to go ghost hunting. Practice good safety habits and carry a cellphone, just in case you need it. However, keep it turned off, during the hunt.

The Hunt in the Mirror

I have never tried this myself, but I have talked to others that have. The method goes like this. Go into a solid dark room with a wall mirror. Place a towel over your head and get as close as you can to the mirror. Stare into the dark mirror for 10 to 15 minutes. Remember, there must be no light of any type in the room or it won't work. Look closely for some type of movement with the mirror. The towel on your head helps to keep out the outline of your head or face in the mirror. If you hear sounds, don't be afraid to try and communicate.
