Houseplants add color to your home.

Houseplants bring the outdoors inside. They add wonderful green and color to your décor and they clean the air. The secret of being successful in growing a beautiful house plant is selecting the right plant. Sometimes it can be overwhelming when you go to the plant center. There are so many plants and all of them are beautiful.

Step 1: Consider where you’re going to put the plant. Light, humidity and temperature are important factors in growing a plant. If you want a plant in a certain place, you have to buy a plant that will live in that area.

Step 2: Look for a plant that fits your conditions. If you’re not sure ask someone in the plant department.  There are plants that fit all conditions.

Step 3: Examine the plant. Check leaves and stems. If the leaves are yellow and wilted the plant may not be healthy.  Do not buy an unhealthy plant. A healthy plant stands upright, has firm green leaves and the roots are not overcrowded in pot.

Step 4: Read the tag on the plant. The tag tells you what kind of light, water the plant needs.  Buy one plant at a time.

Step5: Check on plant guarantee. Discount stores usually don't guarantee their plants but a local plant nursery will replace a plant if it dies within a certain number of days.

If a plant starts turning yellow. Try moving it to another area.
