A low carb diet, such as the Atkins Diet and similar ones, can lead to rapid weight loss without a feeling of deprivation. This has made these diets popular since the 1970s for dieters who have lots of weight to lose. Here's how to stick with a low carb diet in order to take advantage of the most weight loss possible while dieting.

Step 1: Make a master list of all of the low carb foods and foods without carbs. On this master list will be a number of foods that you enjoy. These will make up the basis of your low carb diet. The foods can be combined together to make meals, served as side dishes to meat and fish and eaten on their own as snacks.

Step 2: Weigh yourself each day. On many diets, the slow weight loss makes it frustrating to weigh yourself each day. With a traditional, low-calorie diet, it is usually advised to weigh yourself only once a week. But with a low carb diet like the Atkins Diet, the weight loss in the first few weeks is so fast that weighing every day will show you the immediate gratification that will keep you on track. As you see the weight dropping off, you will stay encouraged and stick with the diet plan.

Step 3: Give yourself the occasional cheat day. If you think of your diet as never, ever being able to have certain foods again, you may be tempted to give up on the diet completely. By giving yourself an occasional cheat day to have a few of the foods banned from the low carb foods list, you can steer clear of those foods most of the time without feeling trapped and banned forever from your favorites.

Step 4: Buy new clothes when you hit certain weight loss goals. Seeing the way that you look in smaller clothes helps you to better see some of the benefits of staying with the diet. It may also make you unwilling to give up the diet and outgrow the new clothes.
