american flagThe Fourth of July holiday is fast on us.  Many individuals like to celebrate in their backyard.  Here are some very simple ideas to help your party along.

Open Pit Cooking;  Try digging a hole and place charcoals in it.  Place some gravel rock in the bottom first.  Then place your coals and get them white hot.  Next wrap your foot in foil and place it on top of the coals.  Be creative with your food ideas.  Cover the pit and wait it out.  You only need about 4 to 6 inches of soil on top of the pit.  If you have an old screen place it over your wrapped food.  This makes it easier to open it up.

Red, white and blue balloons.  Gas fill them if you can.  Children will love these.  Have them write small notes or letters. Wrap them in water proof paper.  Later in the evening, before dark, let the children set them free.  They can put things like Happy Birthday America etc.  They are decorations until the end of your party and then off they go.

Music;  Use old music that highlight the day.  Born in the USA, I am a Yankee Doodle Dandy, We Built this City on Rock and Roll etc.  Have the fun is making a patriotic CD and then using it for your party.

Food;  Dig out a Rachel Ray magazine or a Paula Dean cookbook.  They are loaded with ideas for party celebrations.

A mock signing of the Declaration of Independence;  Get or make a copy of the original.  Then have members at your party sign it.  In a few days make copies and give your party goers a copy.  Roll it up and tie a ribbon or string around it for them.  Red, white and blue ribbon would look great.

Games;  Make sure you have games.  Horseshoes, Badminton, Volleyball are great outdoor games.  However, for those that can't play, try some trivia contests.  Give prizes to the winners.

These are just a few ideas to help you with your Fourth of July party.

I have been needing some different ideals for the 4th. I really like the balloon ideal. I wonder how far those things can really go. I hear they can go pretty far depends on the weather also.
