Gasoline expenses are on the rise again. When gas goes up, so does everything else. Hotel and Motel expenses can be costly for those that need to travel. Consider a popular new trend, house swapping. This is especiallyĀ helpful for Seniors that are on a fixed income.
Simply put, you exchange your home with another family while you travel. There are web sites set up to assist you for a small nominal fee. It is purely a barter type system. The payoff comes when you get to travel, have more space, and save tons of money.

House swapping is a great idea if you have responsibilities around your house while you are gone. For example, if you have a pet to care for, your visitors take care of your pet while you are away. They bring in the mail and newspaper and maybe water plants or yard. They simply assume the duties of a homeowner while they stay at your place. You then do the same while you stay at theirs.

If the experience goes well, you could be set up to revisit that area more times in the future. As you get to know the people that stay in your home, you get a feeling of security. This way you never have to leave your house vacant while you travel. This prevents a less chance of a break-in or robbery of your house. If somethings breaks in your home, like a waterline, you have someone there to see that it gets repaired.

All you need to do is list your homes, with pictures on a home swapping web site. Most sites will ask for a small fee. Some of these sites have extensive home listings. To help make your home more appealing, you can list areas of interest and how far these are from your home. It is even possible to exchange cars if you travel by air or rail. Check with your insurance companies before you do this though.

If you live in a remote area, you might think "Who would want to stay here?" Many people that live in the city or suburbs love the idea of peace and quiet in the country. The idea of staying on a farm with their children is very inviting. Some individuals like the idea of being able to travel to a remote area where they can concentrate on their work. Other individuals may just want that get away time with their spouse. Once you have decided to swap homes, you make contact with the other party and go over the particulars. They fill you in on everything you need to know and you do the same. It can be a win-win situation for everyone.

Now that we have went through that, let me say that this isn't for everyone. If you are very devoted to a pet, this can be troublesome for you and your pet. After all, you now have strangers staying in your house and
both of you could have uneasy feelings about care being given for your pet. Another thought of consideration, is the exposure of your privacy. If you have letters, scrapbooks, pictures, bills, etc laying around, this could be an invasion of your privacy. Some individuals just don't like the idea of strangers in their home.

However, if you can get by that, it does provide an excellent opportunity to travel and inexpensively.

Here is a list of some web sites for more information. www.homeexchange.com , www.swapnow.com ,www.intervacusa.com , www.digsville.com , www.seniorshomeexchange.com

As prices continue to grow, so does the expense of travel. For many individuals, the idea of house swapping may not be a bad idea
