The American Apple has long been a part of Americana. Besides being used in many desserts, it has long been used in decorations on clothes, wall paper, books, Christmas ornaments, and anything associated with the field of education.

Apples are good because they help the body with it's abundance of antioxidants. It has also been established that apples help in the brain of the essential neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is good for improved memory. Apples are also important for cleaning and whitening teeth.

Each year the use of apples or their design is placed somewhere. It has even been used for various business like Apple Computers. It can even be found on the stock market exchange. In the fall, festivals are planned around apple picking time. Legends, such as that of Johnny Appleseed, have been made. Although it is not a proven fact, many refer to the apple as the fruit from the Garden of Eden.

Many a Farmers Markets have made a living off the American Apple. There are Candy Apples, Apple Butter, Cider, Syrup, and even Shampoo's and body lotions. It seems like the use for the apple is limitedness.

Recently, I came across an article in the Washington Post. It gave a few other ideas of the American Apple that I would like to share.

Make prints, cards, or wrapping paper. Turn them into decorative stamps. Slice the fruit horizontally, exposing the inside star shape. You can create hearts, moons or Hitchcock's profile with a small knife. Stick a fork into the fruit side (rounded) dip it into paint, let it drip till it stops, and then place it onto the stamp or paper.

Create a candle holder. Core or hollow out the center of the apple so that a candle can be place there. The smell of the apple and candle make for an enjoyable smell. These are especially nice on a fall evening or afternoon.

Build an apple head granny doll. Peel an apple and let it hang for a few days. This is so that it shrivels up like an old granny face. Decorate the face with wire to give an impression of granny glasses. Use seeds for eyes. Attach it to a small bottle for a body appearance. Then dress the body up with Barbie clothes or doll clothes.

Whip up a facial mask. Ground up an apple and add honey. If you want, you can even add oatmeal. Smooth it over your face for 10 to 15 minutes. Don't lick it! then rinse it off with water.

Make an Apple Smoothie. This is simple to do. Take chopped apples, apple juice, cinnamon and vanilla yogurt. Mix them together in a blender. You can add bananas, or peaches, too if you want. If you like a bit of an alcohol taste, you can a shot of Vodka or Gin. However, don't over do it on the alcohol.

Decorations. Apples are great for decorations. A bowl of bright red apples as a center piece for a table, goes a long way in stirring peoples appetites. Just the sight of apples even if they are fake, can brighten an individuals day.

As time goes by, more ideas for the use of the apple will evolve. There probably already are a lot more ideas for the use of the apple that individuals could share.

I started this article by saying that Apples are a part of Americana. Maybe it is a bit ironic that both topics begin with the first letter in the alphabet. The letter "A".
