Flowers are delightful way to dress up any outside event. The only problem with flowers is that they wilt in the heat and cost a lot of money. Using a little creativity and a paper bag, you can solve these problems. Large varieties of gift bags make paper bag flowers easy to coordinate to any décor.

Kids enjoy making these three dimensional decorations and they work great as bedroom art for little girls. With a string of lights suspending them from the ceiling, they become an inexpensive wedding reception decoration. The possibilities are almost endless.

Things You'll Need:

6 Paper bags

Scissors

Paper punch

Double-sided tape

Raffia ribbon

Step 1: Lay one paper bag flat on your work surface. The top of the bag should be facing away from you.

Step 2: Using the bottom fold line on the bag cut the bag horizontally to remove the closed end. You will cut approximately half the distance of the width of the bag. The more you cut the smaller the petals will be.

Step 3: Cut the tops of the flower petals by making a peak design in the bag. Start at the top center of the bag and cut in an arch to the middle side of the bag. Repeat this on the other side. This should make a rounded petal end. You can make any petal design you like, just make sure the sides of the bag are still connected.

Step 4: Use a paper punch to make a hole through the flower petal ¼ inch from the bottom of the flower petal.

Step 5: Repeat this process to create 6 paper bag flower petals.

Step 6: Place double sticky tape on the top of each flower petal. The double sticky tape should be two inches long. The tape should run vertically along the flower petal. Press the tape ¼ inch from the bottom of the flower petal, the flat end, and ½ inch from each of the outside edges of the flower petals.

Step 7: Stack the flower petals on top of one another. The bottom edges of the flower should line up. Press the petals together at the taped locations to form a good bond.

Step 8: Run a piece of raffia through the holes in the petals and make a knot to keep the petals center together.

Step 9: Turn the flower on its side and begin fanning the flower petals open to expose the flower. Use the double stick tape on the top petal to press the top and bottom petals together.

Step 10: Tie the paper bag flower to a tree or trellis using the raffia ribbon.
