We all are trying to stretch our food dollars and boxed macaroni and cheese dinners can be a good value. All you need to add is your own milk and butter and you have macaroni and cheese. You can make it taste better by adding some ingredients to make it your own. Here are two examples.

Cheesier Macaroni and Cheese

Cook the pasta according to package directions and drain. In the same pot you cooked the macaroni in, melt the butter over a low flame. Add the powdered cheese sauce mix and blend well. Slowly add the milk. You can use fat-free milk if you prefer. The extra here is the addition of 8 ounces of shredded cheddar cheese. This will make the macaroni and cheese cheesier and tastier. Just stir it in and make sure not to have the heat too high. Sauce will thicken and all you need to do is to add in macaroni.

Veggie Macaroni and Cheese

Cook the pasta according to package directions and drain. In the same pot you cooked the macaroni in, melt the butter over a low flame. Add the powdered cheese sauce mix and blend it well. Slowly add the milk and stir in. Stir in 2 cups of steamed broccoli florets. Add the macaroni and you have veggie macaroni and cheese. Instead of broccoli florets you can substitute California blend vegetables(broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), green beans and carrot circles or any veggies of your liking. Cheese makes vegetables more desirable to kids!
