Little Black Dress HOW TO CARE FOR THE LITTLE BLACK DRESS The fashion dictators have said too many times that the 'Little Black Dress' isn't 'in' this year and is replaced by some other color. And yet, you still see it because fashion isn't that fickle. Basics will always be around and the Little Black Dress is a basic and is classic....... Your Little Black Dress may be a fine wool gaberdine, a good cotton or a silk. Adhere to manufacturers' methods of cleaning and maintaining to keep it fresh and the cotton unfaded. Organic material such as these also attract moths so it is wise to keep items wrapped protectively in plastic if hanging in a closet or folded nicely in a cedar chest while the moths are out. If your little black dress is Rayon or Polyester, the cleaning methods may be similar. Synthetic materials tend to hold on to more odor, therefore the polyester, in particular, may require washing by hand. Make sure that you follow strict manufacturers instructions on care. If it is a coat dress, wear as a 'duster' over a simple, unembellished lighter-toned dress. If your dress can be altered, i.e. sleeves removed and neck lowered, by all means have an alteration performed to give your dress a new look. By removing the sleeves and lowering the neck it can become more dressy or become more casual if you add a beautiful white cotton blouse or contrasting colored shirt. Have fun!
