How to Buy Cheaper Clothes

Wise shoppers always look for good deals, when it comes time to buying clothes.  They think and consider before buying.  This article will give you some suggestions for buying clothes.

1.  Shop at the Salvation Army or Goodwill Stores.  You can find good merchandise at cheap prices.  You also help out two good programs.  Check your dollar stores, too.  I have found very nice jeans at Rural King for under $9.

2.  Look for labels — Believe it or not, this recommendation is not based on acquiring designer names, but rather on the quality of the piece. Designer labels are (for the most part) constructed using sumptuous fabrics and exquisite tailoring.

3.  Have a discriminating eye.  Although you might be tempted to buy just for the name, these items will usually run at a higher cost, so think twice.

4.  Visit regularly — Each of these stores gets new shipments in daily, which translates into a perpetual quest for the perfect piece.

5.  Make it your own — Update boring pieces by adding accoutrements like cool vintage buttons. Also, don't be afraid to create your own denim cutoffs, and prevent the dreaded continuous fray by sewing a topstitch right above the cut. Don't forget to pull out shoulder pads, too. Update the items, and bring them into the 21st century.

6.  Take risks — Because thrift stores are dirt-cheap, don't be afraid to buy statement pieces. A hot pink blazer! A gold lamé dress! Attention-grabbers abound at these stores.

Never be afraid to buy from a different place.  Always consider mix and matches that you already have.

Being a frugal person, especially when it comes to clothes, I find that with your suggestions and some of my own efforts, I can make do with a lot fewer clothes than many. So much of today's clothes are not wash and wear, they are wash and throw it away. :) Thanks for a good article. 5*

The thrift stores are good place to shop. I've found good clothes there with tags still on them in some cases.

Good article on How to Buy Cheaper Clothes, my first stop is at "Savers" - and you find good clothes there, sometimes with the original tags from other stores.
