How to get a license to sell insurance in Delaware

Intro: Getting an insurance license in the state of Delaware is needed if you plan to sell insurance products in the state and out of the state. In order to get an insurance license in Delaware you will need to complete a “Request for a Delaware Insurance License” form.

Once the form has been completed and submitted to the Delaware Department of Insurance you will need to complete the qualification examination

Requirements

Step 1: Become familiar with the age and residency requirements for an insurance license. An insurance agent in the state of Delaware must be at least 18 years of age. You can apply for a license as a resident of the state and as a non-resident.

Step 2: Complete the application form to request a Delaware Insurance license (see Resources).

Step 3: Mail the form to the Delaware Department of Insurance. Their address is 841 Silver Lake Blvd., Dover, DE 19904-2465. Include any fees that are required when mailing the competed form.

Step 4: Pass the qualification examination that has been approved by the Commissioner of insurance. Passing the examination demonstrates competence to act as a licensed agent.

Completing Application Form

Step 1: Enter you personal information, such as your name and social security number, into Part 1. You will also need to include your resident address information, business address information and mailing address information.

Step 2: Put a check in the box for the type of license required in Part 2.

Step 3: Put a check in the box for the lines of authority that you are requesting. Indicate “Yes” or “No” for the questions below.

Step 4: Enter the date, sign your name and then print or type your full legal name under the Application Certification and Attestation section.

Tips

Refer to the Attachments section of the request form for any additional requirement that are needed.

Warnings

If you do not send all of the information that is required to the Delaware Department of Insurance your request for a license will be delayed.
