I will be the first to admit that I don't know the first thing about Facials. However, for years my wife has done her own at home saving us lots of dollars. For years, I always took her work for granted. I would even make jokes from time to time, such as calling it her clown face. So I finally decided to ask her how she does it . She told me that a facial is done in 5 steps. The main reason she does it is not only to save money but time as well. A facial at home can keep the skin looking and feeling smooth especially in the harsh winter time. You can get the spa glow at home by following five simple steps.

Clean the skin; The first step is to cleanse the skin of all dirt and oil and existing makeup. The secret to good skin cleaning is to stay away from soaps that leave the face dry. There are many different types of cleansers. You can use a facial scrub to remove dead skin every three or four days. Neutrogena and Beauticontrol make great cleansers for the skin. They cost between $7 and $16 at your local drugstore. Trial and error will help you pick what is right for you.

Mask; Next put on a smooth gentle mask for the skin. It adds vitamins and minerals to nourish the skin. Once you have the mask on your face, leave it alone for a few minutes. This will let the vitamins and minerals do their work. Beauticontrol makes a green tea type of mask that works great. Biore Pore also makes a great mask for use. When you remove the mask, be sure to rewash your face very well to remove all of the mask ingredients.

Tone; Next you apply a toner or tonic to the skin of the face. This helps to balance the skin. Be sure that the toner is alcohol free. Alcohol will dry the skin quickly. Neutrogena makes a great toner. The cost is about $7. Use a cotton swab to put on the toner. Do not use cotton balls. They will absorb more than what you need. This will cause waste. Smooth the toner over your skin gently and avoid the eye area.

Anti-Aging; After the toner has time to work, apply any age repair products to the skin. If you use an eye cream, place it only under the eyes. Do not place them on the eye lids unless the directions require you to do so. The skin is very sensitive where it is the thinest. Only the right cream will work.

Moisturize; The final step is very important in any skin care regimen. Applying a good skin care moisturizer is very important. It "sets" the face and seals in the benefits of the previous products. Without this process, the other processes are useless. It is important that your moisturizer contains a sunscreen. Aveeno makes a great moisturizer for this process. The cost is about $20.

It is very important that this ,moisturizer is worked into the neck area as well. This will help you avoid "turkey neck" that is caused by aging.

You can usually do this entire process in about 15 minutes. You can do these before you go to bed or early in the morning. With the proper products and time used, you can do a job just as good as an expensive spa does. You are also saving lots of money and time.

Many time professional women that are on the go don't have the time to visit a local spa any way. By establishing a routine with the right products, you can still help your skin look smooth and help prevent the aging process
