Raising and selling worms may seem like an unusual way to make money, but some people earn a full-time living doing just that. Many people earn a substantial amount of money raising and selling worms on a part-time basis. Anyone can be successful at this home-based business and make money raising and selling worms by following a few simple steps. Step 1: Prepare your worm beds. You will need to get your worm beds prepared prior to getting your worms. Just about anything can be used to make worm beds, plastic totes work very well. Drill a few small holes in the bottom of the beds for drainage. A simple piece of cardboard can be cut to fit just inside the bed for the top. Peat moss can be used for the worm bedding material. You will need to wet the peat moss until it absorbs the water and becomes moist. Step 2: Order your worms. You can search online for worm farms that sell breeding stock. A good amount to start with will be around 1000 worms. Step 3: Add the worms to the bedding. When your worms arrive you will want to get them into the prepared bedding and let them get use to their new home. Step 4: Feed and water the worms. Worms will eat just about anything: table scraps, coffee grounds, shredded paper, and carboard. Many feed stores can get worm feed made especially for worms. After you get the worms started your stock will just keep growing and growing. Step 6: Order worm packaging supplies. You can find cups with vented lids from food container suppliers, or order worm cups and lids online. Use the same bedding for the cups as you used in your worm bedding, just make sure it's not too wet as the cups will not have drain holes. You will want to put between 30 to 50 worms in each cup depending on the size of the worms. Step 7: Sell your worms. The market for worms is huge. Fishermen spend millions of dollars on live bait each year. You can sell your worms to a bait distributor, or you can market the worms yourself. Many places such as: Bait and tackle shops, pay lakes, and convenience stores will buy your worms. You can also sell your worms online! Tips: Keep your customers happy by adding a few extra worms to each cup. Warning: Keep your worms in a cool place. Ā Ā
