Backing up your computer files is important to keep your files safe in case your computer crashes, the hard-drive suddenly fails or your computer gets a virus from the Internet.

So here I will show you how you can back up your personal files in case any of the above mentioned happens or just in case.

Get an EXTERNAL STORAGE DEVICE- you can go to Best Buy and purchase an external storage device for about $ 80 dollars. Then you can transfer all your files from your hard-drive C to this portable external storage device. You can use a FLASHDRIVE device to store and transport files from one computer to another computer. The flash drive device can store only about 10-12 GB and if you have more files than that, you may need a bigger storage device as the one mentioned in step 1. But the flash drive can be useful to transfer pictures, MP3s, Word documents, PDF files and other files from one computer to another. SAVE YOUR FILES ON A CD- CD-R means compact disk recordable, which means you can ONLY record information to it but you cannot change it. So, you can store all your favorite family photos on a CDR, for example. CD-RW stands for compact disk re-writable, which means that you can not only store data and files to the CD but you can also delete and change that data on this CD-RW and put different files on it later. MAKE A DVD-R/RW- you can create your own videos and presentations on a DVD-R disk. You need to have a software program though to do that, like NERO or some other software program that lets you record, edit and burn DVDs.
