Two weeks ago we had what is known as a Full Wolf Moon.  The month of January has a full moon called Wolf Moon, because during this time wolves use to hunt in packs.  So, Native Americans called it a Full Wolf Moon.  This article looks at other months and what the full moon is often called during that month.  This way you know how to refer to the moon during that particular month.  People have long used different names for a full moon because of it's logical connections with other events.  This is how many of the names for a full moon have caught on.

January;  Wolf, Old and Full Snow are the three names here.

February;  Full snow moon and full hunger moon.  The hunger stands for a shortage of food supplies.

March;  Worm, Lenten, sugar or sap.  Lenten is because the season of Lent begins.  Sugar and sap refer to maple being extracted from trees.

April;  Pink, egg and fish.  Fishing for trout begins during this time.  Pink comes from herb moss.  Eggs for chickens beginning to lay eggs more.

May;  Flowers, corn or milk.  Flowers are in full bloom during this full moon.  Corn is being planted.  Cows are giving more milk.

June;  Strawberry and honey.  Strawberries are being harvested and bees are hard at work in their hives.

July;  Buck, thunder and hay.  Bucks are beginning to get their full rack of antlers growing.  Thunder is for thunderstorms.  Hay is being harvested.

August;  Sturgeon, red and grain.  This is when Native Americans began fishing for Sturgeons.  Grain was for the beginning of certain harvests.  Red went a long with the grain.

September;  Corn and harvest represent the bringing in of the crops.  Harvest refers to both September and October.

October;  Besides harvest, it is often called Full Hunter Moon.  This is when hunting season is in full bloom.

November;  Beaver and Frosty.  A Full Beaver Moon meant that the trapping season had begun.  Frosty moon meant the first frost of the year.

December;  Full cold moon and Full long night moons refer to short days and colder nights of winter.

Keep in mind, that each of these occur, when there is a full moon.  All titles begin first with the word "full".
