How to cope with a loved one going to war |

One of the hardest issues, for a parent or a loved one to deal with, is a loved one going off to war. It is one thing to have them going into a branch of the military. It is different when they are assigned to a war area. This article will give you some suggestions on how to handle this issue. 1. Before the person leaves, don't get all teary eyed. They are under enough stress as it is. After all, they are the one going into the battle zone. Try to remain cheerful and optimistic as prepare to leave. 2. Make future plans with them. Set some goals that are legitimate. This will provide a ray of hope, to shoot for something on their return. Many times, a simple goaal is all someone needs to keep them going forward. 3. Handle their affairs for them. Things like caring for their vehicle or pets can be a big help. 4. Mail and phone support. Make solid plans for communication at times. Keep in mind, that mail can be delayed for many reasons out of control for the military. 5. Be strong as they ship out. Go with them as far as you are allowed. Stay optimistic for them. 6. Join a support group. There are many support groups. If you don't know where to go, talk to your church pastor or other families going through the same thing. 7. Pray for them. Prayer comforts and provides intrinsic hope. 8. Tie a yellow ribbon around a tree in your yard. This lets everyone know in your neighborhood that they are serving their country and them. 9. Place their picture where you will see it daily. Set up a small map of the country and pinpoint their location. 10. Keep up to date on bills and correspondence, that arrives for them at your home. follow through on communication as best as you can with them and keep them up to date on positive things. Avoid negative issues. Handle as many of them as you can for the person. Finally, remember to send them a care package. Some items might be rejected. So, it is important to know what can be sent. Check with your local Vets Club of american Legion. They will know what is acceptable. Keep the faith, they will return.
