How to make your Home Safe

Does your home just feel safe or do you know that it is safe? A least once a year, you should do a safety inspection of your home. It is very easy for people to get comfortable and forget to be safe in their home. A safety inspection is needed to help keep out intruders and to make sure you are alerted in case of a fire.

Step One

Check the smoke detectors in your home. It is a good idea to have one smoke detector in each bedroom including the hallway leading to the bedroom and one smoke detector at the opposite end of the house from the bedrooms. If you have multiple levels there should be at least one smoke detector per level.

Step Two

Check all windows. Make sure all the window lock properly and can not be open from the outside. Robbers love to use windows to access the house.

Step Three

Check all exterior doors to make sure the door latches correct and can not be easily forced open.

Step Four

Check where keys are stored. Key should be kept in a locked box instead of just hanging on the wall or sitting on the table or counter.

Step Five

Check the trees and bushes. Make sure they do not block your home’s view. It is best if other people can see your home instead of your home hiding from view.

Step Six

Check the outside lights for any lights that may be out.

Tip: If you are in a high crime area or just need more peace of mind, consider getting a security alarm such as ADT.
