1. When you feel like the enemy is going to attack the first step is to put your body armour on and help your immune system to ward off the infection. Help aid your immune system by eating more foods high in vitamin c such as grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons and limes. You can also purchase some over-the-counter medications such as Airborne or Halls cough suppressants which contain high levels of vitamin C. The body will absorb and expel all that is needed. 2. Your appetite may be suppressed but make sure to eat foods with lots of herbs and spices. Make a large pot of homemade chicken noodle soup with lots of vegetables. My favorite way to make homemade chicken noodle soup is to add low sodium chicken broth. Try adding garlic and onions which help fight any virus or bacteria. Grandma and Grandpa always had it right in the golden years. Having a well balanced diet with fruits and vegetables will help anyone from catching the cold virus. 3. Make sure to get at least eight hours of sleep a night. Children do require at least ten hours of sleep. If you are feeling congested in the evening, try using a humidifier which are reasonable alot your local retail store. Purchase a nasal irrigation tool which is like a neti pot to wash out all nasal passages helping to alleviate a clogged, stuffed nose. 4. Exercise is very important to help the body fight against the enemy. Try going for a stroll even if you don't feel like it. This will help your metabolism and immune system build back up. Remember the body was made to move not sit and go flabby. Drink plenty of fluids like water, juice or hot herbal teas. Tips: If your symptoms continue, you may need to see your physician for further treatment.
