Many don't realize that it is dangerous to plug your computer and some other electronics directly into an electrical outlet. Surprisingly if a thunderstorm or even a frightening unexpected power surge were to occur , it can cause a powerful burst of electricity to race through the power lines in your home or even at your office. This type of incident fries the inside of your computer and cause it to catch on fire. To prevent this from happening you can just simply use a great safety device known as surge protector. Step 1: You first need to shut down your PC and other devices connected to your computer. Make sure that they are shut down properly. Step 2: Now you must unplug your PC and any other devices from their power source, either from the power strip or electrical outlet whichever they are connected to currently. Step 3: Choose which outlet and plug in your new surge protector into the available electrical outlet. Step 4: Now it's safe to plug in your PC and the other devices into the outlets on the surge protector. Step 5: The majority of the surge protectors come with an on and off switch. To indicate that you have set the switch to the ON position you will be able to see a light come on. Step 6: Now it's safe for you to turn on your computer and peripherals. You can now begin to use your computer. Â
