How to Make Easy Play Dough |

This article will teach you how to make easy play dough. Play dough is a very fun modeling clay for kids to use. You can let the creations your kids make air dry until they are hard or you can reuse the play dough by storing it in airtight containers. Dried pieces can be painted with any craft paint. This recipe for easy play dough will make about 3 cups of modeling clay. What fun your kids will have with this cheap and easy to make play dough! Step 1: Gather these ingredients to make easy play dough: 2 plus 1/4 cups of wheat flour (not self rising), 1 cup of salt, 1 tablespoon of powdered alum, 1/4 cup vegetable oil, 1 plus 1/2 cups boiling water, food coloring or poster paints. Step 2: Combine the flour, the salt, and the alum in a bowl. Step 3: Add the vegetable oil and mix well. Step 4: Stir in the boiling water while stirring vigorously with a large spoon until the mixture holds together. Step 5: Let the play dough cool until you can handle it. Step 6: Knead the dough until it is smooth. Step 7: Divide the dough into several portions and add a few drops of food coloring or poster paint to each portion. Step 8: Knead the food coloring or the poster paints into the dough to mix the colors in. You may want to wear plastic gloves for this step or you can put your hands in baggies. Step 9: Use the play dough as you would any modeling clay. If you want your creations to dry, just make sure they are not too thick. Let them air dry for several days until they are completely hard. You can then paint your creations with any craft paint. Step 10: Store any leftover play dough in airtight containers. This particular play dough will keep a very long time without getting hard if stored in airtight containers. Do not refrigerate.
