How to Bring Chinese Students to America

Intro:  The United States is producing a bumber crop of Nobel Peace prizes and our universities are still considered among the best in the world.  Given that we are going through tough times economically, one way to make the situation a little better is to promote those things we know how to do well.

Step 1:  The first thing to do is to find students who want to come to the United States and who have the means to do so.  One of the best places to look for these would be in economies that are still doing well despite the world wide recession.  Amongst those countries India and China come to the top of the list.  India is turning out computer professionals right and left who seem to have no trouble rising to the top of the US market.  There may not be much in the way of low hanging fruit in India.  So China, the country that is keeping us afloat by lending us money comes to the top of the list.

Step: 2  The primary people who would make good candidates to return to China and recruit students to come to American Universities--preferably on their parents dime or the Chinese government dime--would be Chinese graduates of American institutions of higher learning.

Step: 3  The next step would be to atract a pool of entrepaneurs to fund the travel, hotels and other travelling expenses of a wandering minstrel who trolls the high schools of China looking for candidates.  Setting aside economic variables, it is possible that the low hanging fruit would be those students who did not quite make the cut in the best Chinese schools.  If we could find prestiegious instutions in the US whose names are known in China but who are suffering from declining enrollment we might have a match made in heaven.

Like most business deals this needs to be a win-win proposition.  The students need to go to some place they can brag to their friends back home about and a university with declining enrollment might well welcome such students.
